Our Scouts section have won this year’s District and County Shooting Competition. Our competitors were Alex Giles, Gabriel Hacker, William Cavill, Marcus Wales, Jacob Allsworth and Tom Crawley.
Our group is set to take delivery of a set of smart new tents with the help of a £2,300 grant from Melksham Area Board.
To build on our explosive fundraising performance at the bonfire night, our group took a stall at this year’s Melksham Christmas Fair. The stall did £150 of brisk business with eager Christmas shoppers. Thanks to all those who donated goods for us to sell.
Bright sparks from our Scout group earned mid-table respectability at the popular monthly charity pub quiz at The White Hart in Atworth.
Our Cubs put on a classic nativity performance (no aliens or royal family this year) at this year’s group carol service. The aspiring thespians managed to deliver the whole performance in rhyming couplets.
A bonfire-night bonanza saw our group raise £753 through our catering tent and the sale of glow sticks at the Broughton Gifford firework display.
Thanks to those parents that helped (hope the smell of chips has finally gone) and thanks to the Explorers for selling the glow sticks.
As the world marked 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War, 1st Broughton Gifford & Holt Scout Group put on a very special Remembrance Day parade on Sunday 9th November.
There was a near full turn-out from across the group and a large number of parents and local villagers joined us, too. Representatives from each of the sections contributed to a very moving service of remembrance.
After obtaining permission from our Parish Council we were all set to instigate our Centenary Celebrations with a traditional Scout Camp on the Common outside our Headquarters.
