2019 GSL’s Report

This year’s been another great year in the history of BGH Scouts

All the sections are at healthy numbers with a strong leadership team.  We had a couple of changes with Bart hanging up his woggle in Cubs and Colonel taking a travel sabbatical.  Many thanks to Jade and Aaron for stepping up to fill these roles.  We also welcomed new leaders in Alicia Hurn, Matt Stenner, Pete Escott and Nick King.

Our Leaders continue their ongoing training and this year has seen the attainment of a number of permits Air Rifle Shooting, Archery and Nights-Away.  These scouting adventures are not just thrown together you know

The scout hut has seen some great improvements with the kitchen  refitted over the Christmas period.  We’ve also managed to get the outside area concreted to allow us to better utilise that area in section meetings.

We had a number of healthy grants this year that have supported the improvement works and purchase of new kit.  Our thanks go out to Melksham Area Board and Broughton Gifford Parish Council.

Back office, as with all organisations this year, we have had to check our compliance to the new GDPR regulations — I bet Baden Powell would never have expected that—but we were prepared!

Finally, I’m proud to say that three Explorer Scouts and myself have been selected for the Tanzania 2020 Expedition.  We’re on with the fundraising for this.  Please support us where you can
