Another successful year of Scouting at Broughton Gifford. But one that ends on the strangest twist with the country in lockdown and dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic…
We continue to be blessed with a fantastic leadership team. One that provides a varied programme of face-to-face activities and events and has adapted recently to providing Scouting at Home activities and challenges, whilst juggling their own home working and schooling. That team has got stronger this year too with John Warrington, Archie Holmes and Lisa Robinson all taking up a woggle.
Highlight of the year for me was last year’s Summer Camp – a joint affair between Scouts and Explorers that saw 40 of us (including Leaders) camping at the Pembrokeshire Coast with activities such as Surfing, Rock Climbing and Canoeing.
As a Group we saw our first attendance to a World Scout Jamboree with George and Will Lister being selected and having a life-changing experience in the US and Canada in Summer 2019. We also saw three of our Explorers and myself selected for an Expedition to Tanzania this summer however, due to the Covid-19 situation, this has been sadly cancelled
So, whilst Scouting continues remotely for the immediate future, I am thankful for the great team I work with, the great opportunities Scouting gives our Young People and the continued support of our parents and communities that make all this possible
